It’s Not Just What You Know—But Who You Know—and Who Can Help You

business coachRecently I wrote about how knowledge is power—but only if you apply it. All the knowledge, inspiration, tools, and good intentions in the world won’t help you transform your company, scale it up, and take it to the next level—unless you actually take specific steps. For decades I’ve worked with business professionals as a business coach, a business strategist, a teacher, encourager, and mentor. One thing I’ve noticed is that in order to succeed in business, it’s not just what you know—but who you know—and who can help you take those steps.

Some of my clients are pretty well-versed in business principles. They have the knowledge. They understand the concepts. Other clients come to me with virtually no business experience at all and don’t even know where to begin to build their businesses and fulfill their dreams.

One Size Doesn’t Fit All, But . . .

Helping people grow their businesses isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” proposition. Everybody’s situation is different. There are, however, some business principles and disciplines that cut across virtually all business operations. Helping leaders discover those principles—and put them into practice regularly—is the key to transforming a business and ensuring that it can enjoy sustainable growth.

Sometimes I’m asked what I do for a living, and the words and phrases that come to mind include:

  • Confidant
  • Business Strategist
  • Mentor
  • Guide
  • Teacher
  • Encourager
  • Holds others feet to the fire
  • Coach

What’s interesting to me is that those aren’t designations I’ve given to myself. They are all names my clients have used to describe me. Click here to check out a short video that gives you a bit more detail about how that works—in my clients’ own words.
